The BJP remains confident of forming a govt in Maharashtra, even as its pre-poll ally Shiv Sena looks for a better work allocation formula. The term of the outgoing assembly ends on the 9th of November. Time seems to be running out but both allies appear on course to govt formation.
The term of the 13th Legislative Assembly in Maharashtra will end on November 9, 2019. While results to the election to the 14th assembly were declared on October 24, the House has not yet been sworn in, and there is still no party that has staked claim to form the Govt. Negotiations continue between the BJP and Shiv Sena, prepoll allies who received a clear combined mandate of 161 seats between them from the electorate. However the two allies are still to find a workable power sharing formula. But in a signal of sorts, Six Shiv Sena ministers on Wednesday attended a key meeting called by Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis. They later said it was about the agrarian crisis in the state
The BJP remains confident that it will form the government in the state Party leaders Sudhir Mungantiwar and Chandrakant Patil are expected to meet the Governor on Thursday. The BJP expressed confidence that a BJP Shiv Sena government will soon be formed in the state.
Meanwhile even the opposition has urged the ruling alliance to form the govt. Nationalist Congress Party chief Sharad Pawar made it clear his party would play the part of a responsible opposition. Pawar’s remarks came this morning after a meeting with senior Sena leader Sanjay Raut, who had met the Nationalist Congress Party chief as well.
But the Shiv Sena is still exploring all other options before it in the quest for a greater role in Govt formation. Congress Rajya Sabha member Hussain Dalwai had also met senior Shiv Sena leader Sanjay Raut on Wednesday.
Other NDA allies however believe the time has come for the BJP to stake claim for Govt formation on its own.
The Shiv Sena has been demanding a 50:50 power sharing formula and of a rotational Chief Minister. The BJP is in no mood to concede its own position of strength. The impasse remains despite results of the October 24 assembly polls giving the BJP-Shiv Sena alliance a combined seat strength of 161, way past the 145 majority mark in the 288-member House. The BJP won 105 seats in the polls followed by ally Sena (56), the NCP (54) and the Congress (44) in Maharsahtra.
