New Delhi, May 6: Former Indian cricket all-rounder Sanjay Bangar believes that the upcoming IPL 2026 match between Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) and Punjab Kings (PBKS) is crucial for the points table. The match will take place on Wednesday evening at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad.
Bangar anticipates a thrilling and high-scoring encounter, as both teams are expected to showcase similar strengths and winning capabilities. With aggressive batting line-ups, both teams have the potential to post significant totals. Their top-order batsmen are in excellent form, providing ample opportunities to score runs.
Speaking on Jio Hotstar, Bangar stated, “Both teams have the ability to score over 220 runs. Their combinations are quite similar, especially with a strong top-order batting and good fast-bowling options.”
He also highlighted a common concern for both teams, noting that performance during the middle overs could be critical. The team that manages this phase more effectively is likely to gain an advantage in the match.
As the former coach of Punjab Kings, Bangar pointed out that SRH’s Heinrich Klaasen and PBKS captain Shreyas Iyer could be key players in this match.
He further added, “Both teams are trying to bounce back from recent failures, making this match highly competitive. However, considering my connections, I might lean slightly towards Punjab Kings. Earlier in the season, Punjab and Hyderabad faced each other, where Sunrisers suffered a heavy defeat by six wickets.”
Currently, Punjab Kings leads the points table with 13 points from nine matches, while Sunrisers Hyderabad sits in third place with 12 points from ten matches, having secured six victories. The winner of the SRH-PBKS match will take the top spot in the standings.
