Brisbane, December 3 – Australian left-arm fast bowler Spencer Johnson has been ruled out of the upcoming Big Bash League (BBL) season due to a back injury.

In a statement released by the club on Wednesday, Johnson said, “I have received tremendous support from everyone involved in the recovery process. I am confident of making a comeback as soon as possible. I know Heat fans will give full support to the team this season. I will also support the team as a fan from outside.”

Brisbane Heat CEO Terry Swenson said they pray for Johnson’s speedy recovery and look forward to his return to the club next year. “Spencer is recovering from a back injury. His health is continuously improving but his return will not be possible in the upcoming season. We are all disappointed for Spencer but we will continue to support him until he recovers completely. He has made excellent comebacks from injuries early in his career and I have no doubt that he will work hard to recover fully in the future and make a return.”

The club’s statement said that Johnson’s replacement will be announced on December 15 during their opening match against Melbourne Renegades in Geelong.

Johnson made his debut for Brisbane Heat in 2023 and was Player of the Final in their 2024 championship win.

This talented fast bowler has played 5 ODIs and 8 T20Is for Australia. He has taken 4 wickets in ODIs and 14 wickets in T20Is.

Due to his back injury, Johnson has not appeared on the field since playing for Kolkata Knight Riders in IPL 2025. With his exclusion from BBL, his participation in next year’s T20 World Cup to be jointly hosted by India and Sri Lanka has also become doubtful.
