SP MLA Azam Khan not able to take oath in absence of permission by MP MLA court

Rampur (UP), March 29 : Senior Samajwadi Party (SP) leader and MLA Mohammad Azam Khan could not take oath on Tuesday as an MP MLA court here put his application on file, to be heard later. According to sources, an application was sent by the Jailor of Sitapur prison, seeking permission for Azam to participate in the swearing-in ceremony of the newly-elected MLAs held at Lucknow. The Rampur MP-MLA court took the application and put it on the file and it has been attached with the files of cases related to Azam. Now the application will be heard at a later date, added the sources. Azam has remained in Sitapur jail for the last two years in connection with cases lodged against him. Barring a few, he has been granted bail in majority of the cases. The MP from Rampur had contested the recent State Assembly polls and got elected from Rampur Sadar seat. He later resigned from the Lok Sabha and retained the Rampur Sadar seat. XC AB RJ
