South Africa Sets 214-Run Target Against Canada in T20 World Cup

Ahmedabad, February 9: South Africa has set a formidable target of 214 runs for Canada in the ninth match of the T20 World Cup 2026. Both teams entered this Group D encounter aiming for a victorious start to their campaign.

On Monday, at the Narendra Modi Stadium, Canada won the toss and opted to field first, inviting the South African team to bat. Quinton de Kock formed a solid partnership of 70 runs with captain Aiden Markram in just 6.5 overs.

De Kock scored 25 runs off 22 balls, hitting two fours. After his dismissal, Ryan Rickelton joined Markram to add 56 runs for the second wicket in 28 balls, propelling the team’s score to 126. Markram scored 59 runs off 32 balls, including one six and ten fours, while Rickelton contributed 33 runs off 21 balls, featuring one six and three fours.

Following the loss of their fourth wicket at a score of 138, Tristan Stubbs partnered with David Miller to forge an unbeaten 75-run stand for the fifth wicket in 37 balls, pushing the team to a substantial total.

Miller remained not out with 39 runs off 23 balls, including three sixes and one four, while Stubbs scored 34 runs off 19 balls, hitting two sixes and two fours. For Canada, Ansh Patel claimed three wickets for 31 runs, and captain Dilpreet Bajwa took one wicket.
