Beijing, 2 January: The Sorong solar power plant, located in Lithang County of Kanzi Autonomous Prefecture in southwest China’s Sichuan Province, situated in the Yalong River Basin, has now become fully operational. The plant is positioned at an average altitude of over 4,400 metres above sea level, with its highest point reaching 4,700 metres. The total installed capacity of the plant is 10 lakh kilowatts.

According to information, the Sorong solar plant is a key part of the integrated development centre for hydropower, wind, and solar energy in the Yalong River Basin. Along with the Kola solar power plant and Lianghekou hydropower station, it forms a WORLD-class hydro-solar complementary energy complex with a combined capacity of 30 lakh kilowatts hydropower plus 30 lakh kilowatts solar energy.

It is estimated that the plant will produce nearly 2 billion kilowatt-hours of electricity annually. This production will save about 590,000 tonnes of standard coal every year and reduce carbon dioxide emissions by approximately 1.63 million tonnes.
