Mumbai, May 20: Actor Sonu Sood visited the renowned Kamakhya Devi Temple located in Guwahati, Assam. He shared glimpses of his spiritual journey on social media.
In a video posted on Instagram, Sood traveled by train like any other pilgrim to reach the temple, where he offered prayers to the goddess. The footage shows him performing rituals with devotion and spending considerable time within the temple premises.
The temple management and fans were visibly excited to see the actor. Fans took the opportunity to click photos with him, while the temple committee welcomed him in a traditional manner. They honored him with a ceremonial shawl and a symbol of the goddess.
In the video, Sood says, “Hello friends, today we are going to the Kamakhya Devi Temple. We will have the darshan of the goddess there.”
He captioned the video with “Jai Maa Kamakhya Devi.”

The Kamakhya Devi Temple, situated on the Nilachal Hill in Guwahati, is considered one of the 51 Shakti Peeths in India and is a highly revered site. It is famous worldwide for its religious significance, tantra practices, and worship of the goddess. According to belief, the ‘yoni’ of Goddess Sati fell here, making it an important center for spiritual practices. The temple is particularly known for the Devi’s menstruation festival, Ambubachi Mela, and the worship of the ten Mahavidyas.
Interestingly, there is no idol or image of the goddess in the main temple. Instead, a natural crevice shaped like a yoni continuously flows with water and is covered with flowers. Each year, during the Ambubachi Mela in June, the temple remains closed for about three days, as it is believed that the goddess undergoes her menstrual cycle. The temple reopens on the fourth day, welcoming a large number of devotees for darshan.
