Sonu Nigam Addresses Controversy Surrounding Kriti Sanons Ad

Mumbai, August 27: Singer Sonu Nigam has chosen to remain silent regarding the ongoing controversy surrounding actress Kriti Sanon’s Raksha Bandhan advertisement. Through a social media post, he clarified that the information being circulated by the media is incorrect. A media report had shared a lengthy post attributed to Sonu Nigam, which sparked the controversy. The singer took to his official Instagram account to share a screenshot of the post, stating that the account in question does not belong to him.

In his Instagram note, Sonu Nigam wrote, “This is not me, and I did not do anything like this.”

It is important to note that the post reacting to the advertisement controversy was shared from an ‘X’ account bearing Sonu Nigam’s name. The post claimed, “The controversy is not about what a woman wears. The issue lies in the hypocrisy and the ways in which people are influenced through their traditions during Hindu festivals. This is not the first time Kriti Sanon has worn something that has sparked controversy.”

Fans of Sonu Nigam pointed out in the comments that the account was owned by someone else using his name, while the singer has repeatedly clarified that he is not active on ‘X’.

Singer Prajakta Shukre also responded to Sonu Nigam’s clarification. In her comment, she stated, “Sonu has been clearly saying for years that he is not on ‘X’, and this account is not his. Yet, this account continues to use his name and share personal opinions as if they are coming from him. This is not just about whether someone agrees with those views or not; it’s about identity and accountability. ‘X’ has rules against misleading impersonation. Why is this still allowed? Why hasn’t it been removed yet?”

She further questioned the media, asking, “How can you publish statements and opinions under the name of a veteran like Sonu Nigam without verification? When the artist has repeatedly clarified that he is not on ‘X’, shouldn’t a responsible media house check this before giving a platform to an impersonator? A fake account can post anything, but it is entirely wrong for the media to promote it under a veteran’s name.”

This controversy arose amidst backlash against Kriti Sanon’s advertisement for a jewelry brand during Raksha Bandhan. A segment of social media users criticized her outfit for the campaign. Kriti was seen wearing a bralette-style blouse, a cape, and a draped skirt while celebrating Raksha Bandhan. Some users deemed such outfits inappropriate for an advertisement based on a festival like Raksha Bandhan. Later, Kriti defended both her outfit and the campaign in response to the criticism.
