Sikkim Disaster Management Authority Wins National Award, CM Prem Singh Tamang Praises Achievement

Gangtok, May 7: Sikkim’s Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang congratulated the Sikkim State Disaster Management Authority on Thursday for receiving the prestigious ‘Subhas Chandra Bose Disaster Management Award’ for 2026. He described this recognition as a moment of pride for the people of the Himalayan state.

In a post on Facebook, the Chief Minister expressed heartfelt congratulations to the authority for their exceptional contributions in disaster management and their outstanding service to the community.

CM Prem Singh Tamang stated, “This achievement reflects the dedication, professionalism, and relentless efforts of the entire team in strengthening disaster preparedness, response, and resilience across the state. The people of Sikkim take immense pride in this national honor.”

He also acknowledged the officials, staff, volunteers, and all stakeholders associated with the authority’s work. He expressed hope that this recognition would inspire further excellence in ensuring the safety of people and communities, saying, “Congratulations and best wishes for many more achievements in the future.”

It is noteworthy that Sikkim, located in an ecologically sensitive Himalayan region, is vulnerable to natural disasters such as earthquakes, landslides, glacial lake outburst floods, and extreme weather events. In recent years, the state government and disaster management agencies have focused on strengthening early warning systems, improving response mechanisms, and enhancing community preparedness.

The ‘Subhas Chandra Bose Disaster Management Award’ is one of the highest honors in the field of disaster management in the country. Established by the central government, this annual award recognizes individuals and institutions that have made exemplary contributions in reducing disaster risk, preparedness, rescue, relief, rehabilitation, research, and innovation.

The award includes a cash prize and a certificate, with announcements typically made around January 23, the birth anniversary of freedom fighter Subhas Chandra Bose.
