Dhaka, August 24: In a bizarre turn of events, thieves in Bangladesh have stolen 330 kilograms of human hair, leaving police astonished. Unlike typical heists involving gold, silver, or cash, this unusual crime has drawn widespread attention. The estimated value of the stolen hair is around 10 million taka (Bangladeshi currency).
According to reports from the Bangladesh News Agency (UNB), the incident occurred in the Damurhuda area of Chuadanga district. Authorities have arrested two suspects in connection with this shocking theft. The arrested individuals have been identified as 47-year-old van driver Mohammad Shahidul Islam and 39-year-old factory manager Sanwar Hussain Santu.
Police stated that on Saturday afternoon, around 1:45 PM, a group of 7-8 armed men intercepted a van loaded with hair. The assailants made off with 23 bags of hair before fleeing the scene.
Local traders estimate that the market value of the stolen hair exceeds 10 million taka. This incident highlights that for the thieves, hair is not just hair; it represents a lucrative business opportunity.
Interestingly, the stolen goods were not taken from a beauty salon or shop but were being transported from a factory for processing. Atiyar Rahman Tagidar, president of the Bangladesh Hair Processing Small Business Cooperative Association, noted that the shipment was being sent from a factory in Karposhdanga and included goods from 22 traders.
Based on information obtained from the suspects, police have recovered all 23 bags of stolen hair. However, the search for other individuals involved in the crime is ongoing. A case has been registered at the Damurhuda Model Police Station regarding this incident.
Following the theft, local traders in Chuadanga have expressed concerns about their security. Their worries extend beyond the recovery of the stolen hair; they are also questioning the size of the gang targeting their multi-million taka business and the extent of its connections.
