Mumbai, April 18: A wave of shock swept through the Chembur area of Mumbai when a bloodied body was discovered inside a parked auto rickshaw. The victim has been identified as 50-year-old Sanjay Surve, a painter by profession. This incident has created an atmosphere of fear in the neighborhood.
According to police reports, a murder case has been registered at the RCF police station based on a complaint filed by the victim’s son, Ganesh Surve. Ganesh lives with his family in Chembur and works at a salon.
The complaint states that Sanjay frequently traveled to Pune for work and returned home intermittently. On the day of the incident, he left home saying he was going to Pune, carrying approximately 1,000 rupees. That night, when Ganesh returned home from work, his mother was on duty. Around 11:30 PM, she informed him via phone that Sanjay had already left for Pune.
The following morning, around 8:30 AM, Sanjay’s friend, Rais Sheikh, arrived at the house with others and informed the family that Sanjay was found unconscious in an auto rickshaw, with his shirt soaked in blood. Upon arrival at the scene, Ganesh discovered two deep stab wounds on his father’s abdomen, indicating significant blood loss.
The police arrived promptly and transported Sanjay to Rajawadi Hospital, where doctors pronounced him dead after examination. Initial investigations suggest that an unknown assailant attacked him with a sharp weapon, leading to his murder.
Authorities have begun reviewing CCTV footage from nearby areas and are investigating the victim’s contacts. The police are exploring all possible motives behind the murder, including personal enmity, robbery, or any prior disputes.
