Ranchi, May 17: Babulal Marandi, the leader of the opposition in the Jharkhand Assembly, has raised serious concerns regarding the law and order situation and prison administration in the state. In a letter addressed to the Chief Minister, he made sensational allegations of physical abuse against a female inmate at the Birsa Munda Central Jail in Ranchi, claiming she is now pregnant.
Marandi has criticized the jail management and senior officials in the Home Department, demanding immediate and decisive punitive action regarding the case.
In his letter to the Chief Minister, Marandi stated that he received information from credible internal administrative sources indicating that a female inmate, who was supposed to be under protective custody, has been subjected to mental and physical abuse by senior prison officials, resulting in her current pregnancy.
He alleged that despite the gravity of this institutional crime, instead of taking strict legal action against the culprits, top officials in the administrative system are attempting to cover up the matter and erase evidence.
Marandi also accused the Inspector General of Prisons of providing administrative protection to the guilty officials. He expressed concern that there are organized efforts underway to completely destroy scientific and forensic evidence related to this serious crime. He claimed that the victimized female inmate is being secretly taken out of the prison to undisclosed locations and hospitals under the pretext of medical treatment, aiming to eliminate biological evidence through illegal medical interventions.
Additionally, several key eyewitness staff members monitoring activities within the prison have been strategically transferred overnight. In his letter, Marandi warned that if immediate action for dismissal and arrest is not taken against the accused jail officials and those involved in destroying evidence, it would imply that the top leadership of the state is complicit in this deep-rooted institutional corruption.
He emphasized that as the head of the state, the current government will bear full responsibility for this administrative failure and the loss of public trust. Following the release of this letter, political and administrative corridors in the state are expected to witness significant turmoil.
