Shiv Sena Criticizes Central Governments Treatment of Protesters in Delhi

Shiv Sena condemns police brutality against protesters in Delhi, highlighting mistreatment of women and calls for accountability.

Mumbai, October 13 (Daily Kiran) : The Shiv Sena (UBT) has voiced strong criticism of the central government, accusing police in Delhi of violently suppressing protesters. In an article published in its mouthpiece, ‘Saamana,’ party leader Uddhav Thackeray condemned the actions of law enforcement, stating, “Police in Delhi and Mumbai are out of control, brutally beating protesters.”

The article emphasized that despite clear directives from the Supreme Court, police have continued to use excessive force against demonstrators. “There are no restrictions on peaceful assemblies or satyagraha,” it read, yet the police have resorted to heavy-handed tactics against those exercising their rights.

The publication highlighted specific incidents of police brutality, especially towards female protesters and journalists. It detailed how male officers reportedly harassed women, and noted the rough treatment of political figures like MP John Brittas and CPI(M) Secretary MA Baby, who were forcibly removed while peacefully protesting. The article criticized the Mumbai police for mirroring the aggressive tactics of their counterparts in Delhi, citing distressing accounts of children, including many girls, being dragged into police vehicles during protests in the Shivaji Park area.

Shiv Sena (UBT) also lamented the silence of prominent figures who have received prestigious awards, accusing them of becoming “slaves” to the government. The party expressed disappointment in artists and intellectuals who, despite witnessing injustices, choose to support what it termed “tyranny.”

The article pointed out that while these celebrated individuals often portray heroic characters on stage, they remain silent during national crises, prioritizing personal gain over social justice. It mentioned that former cricketer Sanjay Manjrekar has taken a stand against police violence, contrasting him with other celebrities who have remained passive.

Shiv Sena (UBT) warned that those who turn a blind eye to oppression are enemies of society, asserting that such cowardice serves no purpose for the nation. The piece concluded with a stark message: “The country will not forget your cowardice and helplessness!”
