New Delhi, February 5: BJP leader Shazia Ilmi has expressed her disapproval of Congress leader Rahul Gandhi’s comment referring to Union Minister Ravneet Singh Bittu as a “traitor friend” in the Lok Sabha. She stated that the language used by Gandhi is unacceptable.
In an interview, Ilmi remarked that such remarks diminish Gandhi’s own stature and undermine the dignity of the Leader of the Opposition. She questioned the appropriateness of labeling someone a traitor simply for leaving the Congress party, noting that many individuals switch parties.
Regarding West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s statements in the Supreme Court, Ilmi criticized her choice of words and her treatment of a constitutional institution, suggesting it reflects a lack of respect for the country’s constitutional bodies. She pointed out that Banerjee’s voter base is primarily composed of infiltrators.
On the issue of conversion and harassment of women in Basti district, Uttar Pradesh, Ilmi stated that Shama Bano’s actions were wrong from both constitutional and religious perspectives. She emphasized that the Quran does not endorse forced conversions.
Ilmi highlighted Prime Minister Modi’s earlier statement advocating for Muslim children to balance religious education with modern skills, suggesting that it is crucial for them to excel in competitive exams and integrate into mainstream society.
Concerning the scrutiny of madrasas in Uttar Pradesh, Ilmi called it a necessary step. She stressed the importance of understanding the curriculum, auditing how education is delivered, tracking funding sources, and ensuring transparency in financial transactions related to these institutions.
