Sharmila Criticizes Brother Jagan for Straying from YSRs Ideals

Vijayawada, April 10: Y.S. Sharmila Reddy, president of the Andhra Pradesh Congress Committee, targeted her brother Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy, the president of the YSR Congress Party, claiming he has deviated from the ideals of their late father, former Chief Minister Dr. Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy (YSR).

She advised her brother to undertake a ‘self-reflection journey’ instead of a symbolic padayatra.

Sharmila’s remarks came on the 23rd anniversary of YSR’s historic padayatra. This statement coincided with Jagan Mohan Reddy sharing his thoughts on YSR’s padayatra on social media.

Recalling YSR’s legacy, Sharmila emphasized that his padayatra was not merely a political activity but a transformative movement aimed at the welfare of the poor, marginalized, and backward classes. She noted that YSR undertook this journey as a committed Congress leader, leading the party to power and securing a lasting place in the hearts of the people.

Questioning her brother’s political direction, she alleged that despite running the party in YSR’s name, Jagan’s policies and decisions contradict their father’s ideals.

Sharmila also accused her brother of distancing himself from secular values and bowing to “fascist and capitalist forces” to maintain political existence.

She raised concerns about his silence on national issues affecting minorities, Dalits, and civil liberties, while also accusing him of supporting the ruling powers at the center.

Reflecting on the past five years of governance, Sharmila expressed worry over incidents of atrocities against Dalits, women, and minorities, questioning if this aligns with YSR’s legacy.

Previously, former Chief Minister Jagan Mohan Reddy posted on ‘X’ to commemorate the impact of YSR’s historic padayatra. He stated that a leader’s padayatra has the power to change the history of the state.

He recounted that on April 9, 2003, YSR began his padayatra under the scorching sun to understand the people’s problems, which instilled confidence in the public and garnered substantial support, leading to his position as Chief Minister.

Jagan mentioned that from his first day in office, he implemented significant reforms and welfare schemes, including signing the file for free electricity for farmers, which transformed the state’s direction. These initiatives empowered farmers, promoted women’s self-reliance, and provided security to marginalized communities.

He also noted that due to YSR’s schemes, many children from poor families became doctors, engineers, and civil servants, while irrigation and drinking water projects, including the Polavaram project, gained momentum.

Jagan asserted that YSR’s influence in education, health, agriculture, and industry remains indelible, and his own political journey is inspired by those very ideals and legacy.
