Shah Rukh Khan-Kajol’s DDLJ Statue Unveiled at London’s Leicester Square

Mumbai, December 4 – Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan and actress Kajol’s iconic film ‘Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge’ completed 30 years since its release this year. On this special occasion, the film has received one of the world’s biggest honours.

A bronze statue of Raj and Simran was unveiled at the famous ‘Scenes in the Square’ statue trail in London’s Leicester Square. This is the first time any Indian film has received this prestigious recognition.

Shah Rukh Khan shared pictures of this special moment on his Instagram handle with a heartfelt caption. The DDLJ ‘Raj’ wrote, “Bade bade deshon mein, aisi choti choti baatein hoti rehti hain, Senorita. Very happy to unveil the bronze statue of Raj and Simran at Leicester Square in London. Celebrating 30 years of DDLJ.”

The ‘King Khan’ expressed his joy further, writing, “Very happy that DDLJ is the first Indian film to be honoured with a statue in the Scenes in the Square trail. Thank you so much to everyone in the UK for making this possible. If you are in London, do meet ‘Raj’ and ‘Simran’. We would like you to create more memories with DDLJ.”

The statue features Shah Rukh (Raj) and Kajol (Simran) in their iconic pose. Scenes in the Square already houses statues of Hollywood legends like Harry Potter, Batman, Mr Bean, and Laurel and Hardy. Now, the Raj-Simran duo has joined this prestigious collection. This location is one of the favourite spots for every tourist visiting London.

DDLJ was released in cinemas on October 20, 1995, and was loved immensely by audiences. Directed by Aditya Chopra, the film starred Shah Rukh and Kajol alongside Anupam Kher, Mandira Bedi, Farida Jalal, Amrish Puri, Parmeet Sethi, Achala Sachdev, Lalit Tiwari, and Himani Shivpuri in important roles.
