Mumbai, April 5 : Snapping the gaining streak of last two sessions, the BSE Sensex on Tuesday tumbled down 435.24 pts to settle at 60,176.50 on profit booking by local operators. The Nifty of National Stock Exchange (NSE) too slipped 96 pts at 17,957.40. The Sensex opened higher by 175 pts at 60,786.07, which remained the day’s high. During the day it dropped nearly 719 pts to 60,067.18, the day’s low, before closing at 60,176.50, sliding 435.25 pts from its previous close. The Nifty recorded the day’s high and low at 18,095.45 and 17,921.55 respectively. The sectoral indices like Finance, Bankex and Telecom dragged the market today. In scrips HDFC Bank was a major loser, it fell 2.98 pc to Rs 1607.15 followed by Bajaj Finserv by 2.14 pc to Rs 16,818.85, HDFC by 2.12 pc to Rs 2622, Kotak Bank by 2.05 pc to Rs 1798 and Reliance Industries by 1.41 pc to Rs 2625.40. The gainers were NTPC by 3.40 pc to Rs 149.15, Powergrid by 2.48 pc to Rs 233.05, ITC by 1.63 pc to Rs 259.50 and Titan by 1.38 pc to Rs 2551.20. The Mid Cap rose by 1.28 pc and Small Cap by 1.37 pc. In 30 scrips, 13 advanced while 17 declined. The European market rose today as the pan-European Stoxx 600 moved up 0.4 per cent. On Wall Street, Dow Jones, S&P 500, and Nasdaq Composite Futures fell between 0.05 per cent to 0.15 per cent. In Asia, Japan’s Nikkei gained 0.2 per cent and South Korea’s Kospi too improved 0.05 per cent. And China’s CSI300 advanced 1.3 per cent. NV RKM
