Security Forces Arrest Three ULFA Members in Nagaland

Dibrugarh, April 25: Security forces arrested three members of the banned United Liberation Front of Assam (Independent) during an anti-terrorism operation in the Mon district of Nagaland on Friday.

According to official sources, the suspects were active in the Foamching area and were heading towards Shangnyu village at the time the operation commenced. Acting on intelligence, personnel from the Assam Rifles conducted a raid in Shangnyu village, located in the Foamching sub-division of Mon district.

The arrested individuals have been identified as self-styled Lieutenant Gajendra Assam (35) from Tezpur, self-styled Lance Corporal Brojen Assam (27) from Jorhat district, and self-styled Sergeant Puhor Assam (26) from Golaghat district. Officials reported that Gajendra joined the organization in 2011, while Brojen and Puhor became members in 2022 and 2019, respectively. Security forces also recovered four grenades from their possession.

Earlier, a person was detained in Charadeiv district of Assam on suspicion of links to the banned ULFA (Independent). The accused, identified as Wang alias Noni, was apprehended during a security operation in the Namtole area of the Sonari sub-division. Authorities suspect that Wang was aiding the group by delivering messages and providing operational support.

In a separate incident, Tinsukia police had previously detained seven individuals suspected of being connected to ULFA (Independent) from various parts of the district. Police sources indicated that the suspects had allegedly maintained contact with the organization for an extended period, during which information was exchanged. These arrests were made through a coordinated series of actions across different locations.

All seven detainees are currently being interrogated to determine the extent of their involvement and potential network connections. The arrested individuals have been identified as Barlin Niyog from Bordumsa, Mithu Gohain and Lilambar Moran from Pengri, Bikash Deka from Kakopathar, Shiba Deb and Paritosh Deb from Miao in Arunachal Pradesh, and Manob Dey from Makum.
