New Delhi, March 7 : The Supreme Court on Monday sought a reply from the Bihar government after hearing a PIL challenging the appointment of S K Singhal as the Director General of Police (DGP) in the state. “We seek responses from the State of Bihar,” a three-judge Bench headed by Chief Justice N V Ramana said. The Bench, also comprising Justices A S Bopanna and Hima Kohli, issued notice to Bihar after hearing a Public Interest Litigation filed by Narendra Kumar Dhiraj through Advocate on Record Amrita Kumari. The PIL claimed that the appointment of Singhal as DGP violated the 2006 judgment of the Supreme Court in the Prakash Singh versus Centre case. “The tenure of DGP was fixed for two years ending in December 2022,” the PIL said.
