Basel, March 23 : Men’s doubles pair of Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty on Wednesday stunned reigning All England Open champions Muhammad Shohibul Fikri and Bagas Maulana of Indonesia to enter the second round of the Swiss Open Super 300 badminton tournament. The Indians came from one set down to win 17-21, 21-11, 21-18. In the men’s singles, world championship silver medallist Kidambi Srikanth trounced Mads Christophersen of Denmark 21-16, 21-17 here at the St. Jakobshalle Basel. The mixed doubles team of Ashwini Ponappa and Sumeeth Reddy were ousted after an opening round loss to the French pair of Delphine Delrue and Thom Gicquel 13-21, 9-21. In the women singles, young Indian shutters Aakarshi Kashyap and Malvika Bansod suffered an early exit after their respective opening round losses. While Aakarshi lost 5-21, 17-21 to Yvonne Li of Germany, Malvika suffered a 16-21, 17-21 loss at the hands of French Qi Xuefei. BAV MR
