Saroj Kanwar Becomes Jaipurs First Female Deputy Mayor, Defeats Congress Candidate Salman Mansoori

Saroj Kanwar has made history as Jaipurs first female Deputy Mayor, winning against Salman Mansoori in a closely contested election.

Jaipur, September 26 (Daily Kiran) : Saroj Kanwar has made history by becoming the first female Deputy Mayor of Jaipur, following her victory over Congress candidate Salman Mansoori. The election took place on September 26, 2026, and saw participation from 149 out of 150 city council members. The lone absentee was Congress councilor Vandita Sharma, who was unable to vote due to an injury.

Kanwar secured 89 votes, while Mansoori received 58. One vote was cast for NOTA (None of the Above), and another was declared invalid. This election marks Kanwar’s first foray into politics, propelling her directly into the Deputy Mayor role. She is married to Ranjeet Singh Sodala, a former state minister of the BJP and president of the Rawana Rajput community.

Celebrations erupted outside the municipal headquarters as BJP workers and supporters lifted Ranjeet Singh Sodala in joy following the announcement of the results. The voting process was conducted under tight security, with police stationed at the entrance, allowing entry only after thorough checks. Mayor Sunil Kothari was also present to cast his vote.

The Deputy Mayor election followed a recent mayoral election where BJP’s Sunil Kothari was elected as Jaipur’s Mayor. During that election, both BJP and Congress had kept their council members in separate camps. For the Deputy Mayor vote, all councilors returned to the municipal headquarters.

Prior to the voting, the BJP reached out to independent councilors to claim their support. Ultimately, Kanwar defeated her opponent by a margin of 31 votes and is set to assume her duties shortly.
