BJPs Vivek Rajvanshi Elected Unopposed as Kotas Deputy Mayor

Vivek Rajvanshi of BJP has been elected unopposed as Deputy Mayor of Kota, while Vinita Poonia of Congress wins in Khatushyamji.

Kota, September 26 (Daily Kiran) : Vivek Rajvanshi of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) was elected unopposed as the Deputy Mayor of Kota on Saturday, September 26. This election came as the Congress party did not field any candidates for the position.

After his election, Rajvanshi committed to enhancing civic services and transforming Kota into a cleaner and greener city. He plans to align his efforts with the vision expressed by Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla for the city.

The elections for Deputy Mayors are taking place in three major municipal corporations: Jaipur, Jodhpur, and Kota. In Jaipur, BJP’s candidate Saroj Kanwar is facing competition from Congress. Congress leaders have raised concerns about the possibility of cross-voting, but Rajasthan’s Urban Development and Housing Minister, Jhabar Singh Kharra, stated that BJP councilors are united and disciplined, indicating that cross-voting is unlikely.

These municipal elections follow the recent mayoral elections in the same cities, where BJP secured victories. All eyes are now on the Rajasthan State Election Commission, which is expected to announce the schedule for upcoming Panchayati Raj elections around September 30. This announcement will trigger the enforcement of the model code of conduct. The reservation process for rural local bodies has been completed, and preparations for the next phase of elections are underway.

In Khatushyamji, Congress’s Vinita Poonia won the position of municipality chairperson by defeating BJP candidate Prem Devi with a vote tally of 10-9. The counting of 19 votes cast on September 21 was conducted after retrieving the ballot box from the strongroom, following directives from the Rajasthan High Court.

The Khatushyamji municipality board comprises 20 members, including eight each from BJP and Congress, three independents, and one from the Rashtriya Loktantrik Party (RLP). On September 21, 19 councilors participated in the voting, while one Congress councilor was absent.

The Rajasthan High Court had halted a proposed re-poll on September 25, instructing officials to count the votes that had already been cast. This ruling came after a petition was filed by councilor Poonia, who is also a candidate for the chairperson position in Ward 11.
