New Delhi, September 11 (Daily Kiran) : Former External Affairs Minister and Congress leader Salman Khurshid stated on Friday that India should leverage the upcoming BRICS Summit to exhibit the leadership the world anticipates from it. Speaking in New Delhi, Khurshid noted that hosting the summit is not a novel achievement for India, as it marks the third time within the current government’s term. He explained that the presidency rotates among member countries, emphasizing the importance of making this summit significant.
Khurshid pointed out the high expectations the global community has for India. He questioned whether India is meeting these expectations or if domestic issues are hindering its ability to perform on the world stage. He also highlighted the world’s hopes for India’s potential role in resolving conflicts in West Asia.
“Today, as we chair this platform, it is crucial that we demonstrate the expected leadership,” he said. The success of this endeavor will be assessed after the summit concludes.
Regarding Chinese President Xi Jinping’s visit to India, Khurshid remarked on its significance. He noted that when distances grow between two nations, direct dialogue and relationship-building become challenging. He expressed concern that the current state of India-China relations is not what it should be and that India has suffered as a result, especially since the government has not disclosed issues stemming from China.
Khurshid urged the Indian government to engage in dialogue with China, stating that once these discussions take place, the government should inform the public about the outcomes.
