Ahmedabad, May 19: Former Indian cricketer Sachin Tendulkar has stated that parents must grant their children freedom if they wish to see them succeed. He emphasized that young players need to make sacrifices to wear the Indian jersey, as shortcuts do not lead to true success.
Sachin made these remarks during the launch event of the ‘SRT10 Altevol Center of Excellence’ in Ahmedabad, attended by ICC Chairman Jay Shah and Gujarat’s Deputy Chief Minister Harsh Sanghvi.
In his message to parents, Sachin said, “We want our children to be successful, and for that, we must work hard. Most importantly, we should give our children the freedom they need. Freedom and courage go hand in hand, as this is what leads to results. My parents never pressured me, nor did my siblings ever ask why I wasn’t scoring runs. When I played my first two club or practice matches, I got out for zero, but I was happy that I managed to score one run in my third match.”
He advised the youth to always prepare thoroughly before stepping onto the field. “I want to tell all children that it’s not necessary to succeed every time you play, but you can always prepare. There are no guarantees of success, but preparation, discipline, and focus are in your hands. Talent is a gift from God, but how hard you work with that talent is crucial. I have seen many capable cricketers who did not achieve much in their careers.”
Sachin urged aspiring players to understand that playing for India requires sacrifices. He stated, “To become a good player, you must give up many things. If you want to play for India, there are certain things you must do; there are no shortcuts. If you take shortcuts, your shortcomings will be exposed on the cricket field, as the game is played in front of everyone. Therefore, avoid shortcuts. The academy aims to develop not only outstanding players but also good individuals.”
