Jaipur, October 7 (Daily Kiran) : Senior Congress leader Sachin Pilot voiced serious concerns on Wednesday regarding the recent actions of the Election Commission and the treatment of opposition MPs during protests in Delhi. He criticized the handling of demonstrations, which included prominent leaders such as Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra.
Pilot alleged that opposition MPs attempting to meet with the Election Commission were detained, questioning why elected representatives were not allowed to express their views before a constitutional body. He labeled these incidents as dictatorial, asserting that democratic institutions must remain open to dialogue and accountability.
He referenced the ongoing process to update voter lists, warning that millions of voters risk being removed from the rolls. This, he argued, poses a threat to the constitutional right to vote. Using the term “vote ban,” he compared this issue to the demonetization of currency, calling for immediate attention to concerns surrounding voter registration.
Discussing the recent municipal elections in Rajasthan, Pilot claimed that Congress performed significantly better than the results indicated, citing an increased share of the vote. “I have no hesitation in saying that the BJP lost despite winning, while we won despite losing,” he stated, highlighting allegations of irregularities and administrative interference during the elections.
Pilot confirmed that Congress has reviewed the election results and is gearing up for the upcoming Panchayati Raj elections. He expressed confidence that the party would perform well in rural Rajasthan and secure a substantial majority in the local elections.
He emphasized the party’s commitment to addressing issues such as unemployment, farmers’ concerns, welfare program implementation, and the shortage of DAP fertilizer in the state. He criticized the government for its indifference, noting that DAP fertilizer is being distributed under police protection.
Pilot asserted that Congress will contest the upcoming elections unitedly and will launch a two-month outreach campaign across villages and blocks in Rajasthan. He stressed that the party would focus not only on electoral issues but also on the necessity of protecting democratic institutions and voting rights.
Predicting a significant victory in the Panchayat elections, Pilot stated that this would bolster Congress’s preparations for the 2028 Rajasthan Assembly elections.
