Thiruvananthapuram: The Special Investigation Team (SIT) report from Kerala has raised significant questions regarding the role of Tantri Rajivaru in the Sabari Mala temple gold theft case. The report explicitly states that Rajivaru’s involvement in the matter cannot be overlooked.
As the temple’s Tantri, Rajivaru holds the crucial responsibility of preserving the sanctity, spiritual dignity, and religious traditions of Sabari Mala. However, according to the investigation, there has been a serious lapse in fulfilling these duties.
The report highlights that when the first accused, Unnikrishnan Potty, was ordered to provide copper plates plated with gold, a vital temple tradition was completely ignored. At an important pilgrimage site like Sabari Mala, it is mandatory to seek the deity’s permission before undertaking any significant task. This religious procedure was entirely bypassed in this instance. Surprisingly, the Tantri, who has the final authority on all rituals and religious rules, did not take any action to prevent this breach.
The arrest report further mentions that Rajivaru effectively gave a ‘silent consent’ to the entire affair. The investigating agency believes that the Tantri could have stopped the decision immediately but chose not to. This deepens the suspicion as to why the Tantri remained silent despite such a major violation of religious customs.
Additionally, the report notes that the Tantri neither informed the Travancore Devaswom Board nor raised any objection about this serious ritual breach. The Devaswom Board is the highest authority connected with temple administration, and it is mandatory to bring such matters to its attention.
