Ruturaj Gaikwad Emphasizes Freedom for Young Players Ahead of IPL 2026 Clash

Chennai, April 3: The seventh match of IPL 2026 is set to take place at the M.A. Chidambaram Stadium, where Chennai Super Kings (CSK) will face Punjab Kings (PBKS). In a press conference before the match, CSK captain Ruturaj Gaikwad expressed his confidence in the team’s young players.

Gaikwad stated, “Our team is quite young right now. There is enthusiasm, but there is also a significant difference between experienced and less experienced players. Therefore, you must allow them to make mistakes. You need to let them express themselves and ensure they stay in a positive mindset.”

He added, “Players face pressure to perform. Sometimes, it takes time to cope with that and reach a position where they can deliver.”

Gaikwad emphasized the importance of sharing experience with the younger players. “This should not make them cautious or lead them to negative thinking. Debuting for a franchise like CSK is a significant achievement for them. The first thing is to enjoy it, embrace it, and give your best, no matter what. If it works out, great. If not, it’s still a long journey for them. They are just starting their careers. It’s about managing their strengths and instilling fearlessness without any doubts.”

The CSK captain highlighted that allowing mistakes is crucial and that players should not feel pressured.

CSK is currently undergoing a rebuilding phase. The current team is vastly different from the previous one that prioritized experienced players. The franchise is gradually moving on from its older players and investing in youth.

The inclusion of players like Dewald Brevis, Urvil Patel, and Ayush Mhatre, along with Sanju Samson, signals the team’s reconstruction.

In their first match of IPL 2026, CSK, without S.S. Dhoni, faced a heavy defeat against Rajasthan Royals (RR) in Guwahati. Gaikwad’s CSK will aim to secure their first home victory against Punjab on Friday.
