Moscow, April 5: Russia’s state nuclear energy company, Rosatom, has initiated the main phase of evacuating its employees from Iran’s Bushehr nuclear power plant. This announcement was made by Rosatom’s Director General, Alexey Likhachev.
Likhachev stated that a total of 198 Rosatom employees are being transported by buses towards the Iran-Armenia border.
He expressed optimism, saying, “We fully expect that within two to three days, our colleagues will safely cross almost the entire region of Iran and return to their homeland.”
Likhachev also noted that the Iranian side is making significant efforts to ensure the safety of the evacuation route, and cooperation with the Armenian government is proceeding smoothly, as reported by the Xinhua News Agency.
He mentioned that Russian nuclear specialists will exit the region via Yerevan Airport.
Previously, Iran’s Atomic Energy Organization reported that a projectile fell near the Bushehr nuclear power plant, resulting in the death of a security guard. This incident marked the fourth attack since the U.S.-Israel strikes began on February 28.
Meanwhile, Iran’s Foreign Minister, Seyyed Abbas Araghchi, stated that Tehran aims to secure conditions to “decisively and continuously” end the war imposed by the U.S. and Israel.
Araghchi condemned the U.S.-Israel attacks near the Bushehr nuclear power plant and warned of their potentially deadly consequences for the West Asia region.
The Bushehr nuclear power plant, located 17 kilometers southeast of Bushehr city and operated in collaboration with Russia, began supplying electricity in September 2011. In November 2014, Iran and Russia signed a cooperation agreement to add two new reactors to the plant.
