Mumbai, August 19: The Cockroach People’s Party recently staged a protest in the national capital regarding the NEET paper issue, drawing participation from students across the country. The police’s treatment of the students during the protest has been condemned, leading to multiple petitions filed in court. In response, the court has proposed the formation of a panel that will include a retired judge.
NCP (SP) leader Rohit Pawar addressed journalists on Wednesday, stating that the panel should include a respected judge. He criticized the police’s behavior towards the students, labeling it as unacceptable. He noted that various departments of the Delhi police were involved in the incident, and questioned the actions of certain individuals who were in civilian clothing, wearing sandals, and carrying batons with nails attached. “Who were these people? This is a matter for investigation,” he said.
Pawar emphasized that the judicial inquiry should cover several key issues, including why an FIR was filed and who ordered the police to use batons. He also pointed out that damaged police vehicles were brought to the scene, suggesting an attempt to misrepresent the situation as students causing damage. “How did this happen? An investigation is necessary to clarify these matters,” he added.
He further condemned the actions of BJP and RSS workers who targeted students in civilian attire, even harassing female participants. “Who were these individuals? Their identities must be established, and appropriate action should follow,” Pawar insisted. He urged the police administration to ensure strict measures against such behavior, stating that such actions should not be tolerated under any circumstances.
Additionally, Pawar addressed issues concerning the Marathi community, asserting that anyone born and respecting the local culture and people is considered Marathi. He firmly stated that any infringement on the dignity and interests of these individuals will not be accepted.
Pawar also criticized BJP’s political tactics, which he claims exploit divisions among OBCs, non-OBCs, and Marathi versus non-Marathi identities for electoral gain. He warned that any controversial remarks against Marathi individuals will be met with strict action, emphasizing that political manipulation based on language will not be tolerated in the state.
On the topic of maternity leave in Tamil Nadu, he affirmed that it is a woman’s right and should be granted regardless of the number of children. He noted that while there are regulations regarding political participation after having multiple children, maternity leave must be provided to women.
