Patna, May 16: The recent hike in fuel prices has ignited a political controversy. Rohini Acharya, daughter of Lalu Prasad and a leader of the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD), has targeted the central government over the escalating inflation.
In a post on the social media platform X, Acharya criticized the government, stating that the issue extends far beyond a mere increase of three rupees. She emphasized that it reflects the broader pressures of rising inflation.
Acharya noted that the soaring fuel prices have turned economic hardship into a daily reality for ordinary citizens. She stated that the concern is not just about the three-rupee hike; it is about the burden of continuously rising prices.
She further alleged that the weight of inflation disproportionately affects daily wage workers and common citizens, while the government remains indifferent to their struggles.
Acharya also took aim at the government’s long-standing slogan of “Achhe Din” (Good Days), arguing that public expenditure is on the rise, yet there is no substantial relief or clarification from the government.
She added that the burden of rising petrol and diesel prices falls hardest on those who earn and eat daily—the common people—while the government, which operates at the behest of wealthy industrialists, shows little concern for their troubles.
The increasing inflation has impacted the general public across India in various ways, raising widespread concern over escalating household expenses. The prices of several essential commodities have surged, heightening anxiety among citizens.
This price surge began following Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s appeal to increase import duties on gold and silver, which subsequently drove up gold prices. This was followed by hikes in the prices of milk and CNG. Now, fuel prices have also seen an increase.
As of May 15, petrol and diesel prices have risen by over three rupees per liter nationwide.
