Guwahati, February 17: BJP spokesperson Rohan Gupta has launched a sharp attack on Congress, responding to recent statements by senior leader Mani Shankar Aiyar. Gupta accused the party of internal chaos, double standards, and a prevailing ‘court culture’ where suggestions are sidelined, while sycophants make decisions.
In an interview, Gupta noted that Aiyar has served Congress for a long time and has clearly stated that he does not glorify any single individual. He emphasized that while this may be an internal matter for Congress, the real issue lies in how anyone attempting to reflect the party’s shortcomings or offer suggestions is marginalized. He claimed that the ‘court culture’ dominates Congress, with the same individuals controlling decision-making processes, even after electoral defeats.
Gupta pointed out that the primary reason for Congress’s marginalization is its disconnection from the real issues faced by the public. He accused the party of raising issues that the public does not take seriously, such as allegations of vote theft, attacks on constitutional institutions, or statements regarding Prime Minister Modi. He stated that leaders advocating for reform within the party are shown the door, a situation exemplified by Aiyar’s current predicament.
Additionally, Gupta criticized Congress’s leadership regarding controversies over ticket distribution. He referenced allegations made by Navjot Kaur about ticket sales and highlighted the apparent disconnect between party leadership and grassroots workers. He questioned whether the top leadership is aware of these issues or if they rely solely on those around them to gauge the party’s status. He claimed that in Bihar, a leader was denied a meeting with the top leadership because the ‘courtiers’ deemed it unnecessary.
He raised concerns about whether it is acceptable for a political party to prevent its workers or leaders from meeting with top leadership. Should it be the prerogative of courtiers to decide who gets to meet the leadership? Gupta asserted that Congress’s weakened position stems from a lack of awareness of ground realities, which is the responsibility of those who prevent the truth from reaching the leadership.
