Thiruvananthapuram, April 27: The rapidly rising temperatures in Kerala have led to a surge in snake bite incidents across the state. What was once considered a sporadic rural threat has now escalated into a significant concern. Reports indicate that people of all ages are at risk, and even homes are no longer safe.
In a single day, 23 individuals required ambulance assistance due to snake bites. From Alappuzha to Kozhikode, and Malappuram to Thiruvananthapuram, incidents are being reported uniformly across various regions. Snakes are emerging from their burrows and invading human settlements, with experts attributing this behavior to the rising temperatures.
As the ground temperature increases, snakes are compelled to leave their burrows in search of cooler environments.
In Kayamkulam, five individuals, including two young children, were bitten by snakes. In Kozhikode, a young man discovered he had been bitten only after finding a snake on his bed.
In another alarming incident, a family found multiple venomous snakes hiding in different rooms of their home, with one snake discovered on a bed where children had just been sleeping.
These occurrences are not isolated but rather indicative of a shifting ecological balance. In response to the rising snake bite incidents, hospitals have acted swiftly to ensure the availability of anti-venom serum and timely treatment for patients.
