Darbhanga, May 17: Dipankar Bhattacharya, the General Secretary of CPI (ML), criticized the NDA government on Sunday for the rising prices of diesel and petrol, stating that the burden of inflation is falling on the poor and working class.
Speaking at a press conference on the second day of a three-day state conference in Darbhanga, Bhattacharya remarked that Nitish Kumar once spoke of good governance, social justice, and opposing communal politics, but has now handed Bihar over to the BJP. He pointed out that a “bulldozer raj” is currently in effect in the state, where homes of the poor are being demolished, and movements by students and youth are being suppressed, silencing dissenting voices.
Representatives from various districts of Bihar are participating in this conference, which includes farm laborers, farmers’ movements, student and youth representatives, women’s movements, and activists from people’s organizations. The conference is discussing the political situation in Bihar, reviewing the organization’s work, and planning future actions.
During the press conference, Bhattacharya expressed concern over the rising incidents of violence against women, stating that such violence has surged post-elections, with victims failing to receive justice. He also raised the issue of the NEET exam paper leak, claiming that the entire education and competitive exam system is under the influence of criminals. This corrupt system, allegedly protected by the BJP, has jeopardized the futures of 2.2 million students.
He emphasized that the nature of elections in the country today poses a serious challenge to democracy. There are widespread removals of names from voter lists, raising questions about the fairness of the electoral process. He accused the government of undermining democratic rights and limiting public participation. The conference will conclude on Monday with the formation of a new committee and announcements of upcoming political programs.
