Celebrations for Guru Amar Das Sahibs Jyoti Jot Day included kirtan and poetry events at the historic Gurudwara in Paonta Sahib.

Paonta Sahib, September 27 (Daily Kiran) : A series of religious events were held at the historic Gurudwara Shri Paonta Sahib in Himachal Pradesh on September 27 to commemorate the Jyoti Jot Day of Guru Amar Das Sahib, the third Guru of Sikhism.
Gurmeet Singh, the manager of the Gurudwara management committee, stated, “In honor of Jyoti Jot Day, several religious programs took place at the historic Gurudwara Paonta Sahib. A special poetry gathering was organized late at night, drawing a large number of devotees. The religious observance began with the offering of the Sri Akhand Path Sahib.”
Guru Amar Das Sahib, born on May 5, 1479, in the village of Basarke near Amritsar, dedicated his life to promoting equality, service, and humanity. He married Mansa Devi and had four children: Mohri, Mohan, Daani, and Bhaani.
On March 19, 1552, he was appointed to the Guru Gaddi by Guru Angad Dev at Khadur Sahib, where he served for 22 years. He strictly implemented the principle of “first pangat, then sangat,” which ensured that people of all backgrounds sat together on the ground to share langar, effectively abolishing caste discrimination. Additionally, he opposed practices such as sati and purdah, permitted widow remarriage, and introduced significant reforms including the composition of Anand Sahib.
