New Delhi, May 19: In today’s fast-paced lifestyle, physical activity has significantly decreased, leading to an increase in neck, back, and lower back pain among many individuals. A highly effective solution to this issue is Ardhachakrasana, also known as the Half Wheel Pose.
This essential yoga posture takes the shape of a half wheel when performed. In Sanskrit, ‘Ardh’ means half and ‘Chakra’ means wheel. During this practice, the body bends backward, forming a half wheel shape.
According to the Ministry of AYUSH, Ardhachakrasana is an excellent backbending yoga pose that significantly improves spinal flexibility and lung function.
This asana stimulates the pancreas, aiding in blood sugar regulation. Additionally, the stretch in the chest and shoulders enhances lung capacity and provides relief from respiratory disorders.
Ardhachakrasana is also beneficial for reducing stress and improving body posture. By applying pressure to specific areas, it helps alleviate tension in the neck and shoulders.
The Ministry of AYUSH provides guidance on the correct way to perform this asana. Stand straight with a slight gap between your feet and place your hands on your waist. Inhale deeply and slowly bend backward. Ensure that your knees remain straight and your head tilts back. Hold this position for 10-15 seconds while breathing normally. Gradually return to the starting position while exhaling. This process should be repeated 3-5 times.
Individuals with high blood pressure, dizziness, or heart conditions should avoid this pose without expert advice. Pregnant women and those suffering from severe slip discs or intense lower back pain should also refrain from practicing it.
