Puducherry, April 15 : Former Lok Sabha Member from Puducherry Prof M Ramadass on Friday urged the intervention of on Minister of Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari to commence the work of the four lane road project connecting Mahabalipuram and Puducherry. In a letter to Gadkari, Ramadass said the people of Puducherry were happy when the Ministry and National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) had decided to make the 107 KMs stretch from Mahabalipuram to Puducherry a four lane one in 2018 at a cost of Rs.3000 crore under the Bharatmala Pariyojana Project. He said Gadkari while dedicating the Arumparthapuram over bridge here in 2021 said that Puducherry will soon get four lane connectivity to Chennai via Mahabalipuram. However, NHAI Chairperson Alka Upadhyaya on Thursday announced that the project is being cancelled as the Tamil Nadu government has not responded for long in submitting the required No Objection Certificate (NOC). It is understood that the Tamil Nadu government had submitted the NOC after the announcement of the termination of the project. In this backdrop, the Minister should intervene and direct the NHAI to commence the project, Prof Ramadass added. PAB CS1715
