Rajinikanth Shows Solidarity with MK Stalin After DMKs Election Setback

Chennai, May 6: In a significant political development following the Tamil Nadu assembly election results, superstar Rajinikanth met with Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) president MK Stalin at his residence in Alwarpet, Chennai, on Wednesday. This meeting took place amidst intense political activity regarding the formation of the state government.

Sources indicate that Rajinikanth expressed solidarity with Stalin after the DMK’s poor performance in the elections, stating that he stands with the senior leader during these challenging political times.

The meeting lasted for some time and is viewed in political circles as a crucial gesture of personal and political support, particularly as the DMK faces one of its most significant electoral setbacks in recent years.

Under Stalin’s leadership, the DMK, which had been in power for one term, managed to secure only 59 seats in the 234-member assembly. The party lost power due to anti-incumbency sentiments and the sudden rise of actor-politician Vijay and his party, Tamilga Vetrik Katchi (TVK), following a high-voltage election campaign.

Rajinikanth’s visit to Stalin’s home coincided with senior leaders from the DMK-led alliance, including representatives from Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK) and left parties, visiting the DMK headquarters, Anna Arivalayam, to show their support for the party leadership after the defeat.

Insiders revealed that the discussions during these meetings focused on maintaining opposition unity and preparing for the changing political landscape in the state.

Meanwhile, Tamil Nadu’s political scene is witnessing rapid changes, with TVK emerging as the largest party with 108 seats, just shy of the majority mark of 118. The Congress party, which won five seats, has already announced conditional support for Vijay to form the government, while TVK has sought additional backing from CPI, CPI(M), and VCK.

Amidst all this, Vijay formally claimed to form the government in the state on Wednesday, accompanied by senior leaders from TVK, including ‘Bussy’ Anand, K.A. Sengottaiyan, Aadhav Arjun, and Arun Raj.
