Ara, October 12 (Daily Kiran) : A tragic incident occurred in Ara, Bihar, where a 25-year-old Home Guard soldier was killed by a gunshot wound on Sunday night. The shooting took place within the premises of the Sandesh police station. According to police reports, the shot was fired from a service rifle belonging to a fellow officer.
The deceased has been identified as Monal Kumar Rai, a resident of Guljarpur village in the Sahar police district. The incident happened around 10 PM. After being shot, the soldier was rushed for medical treatment but unfortunately succumbed to his injuries.
Bhojpur’s Superintendent of Police, Awadhesh Dixit, confirmed that the soldier died from a gunshot wound. He stated that the crime scene was examined, and a forensic team collected evidence. This process was conducted in the presence of a magistrate, and video footage of the investigation was recorded.
The Superintendent noted that it remains unclear whether the gunfire was accidental or intentional. A thorough investigation is underway to determine the exact circumstances of the incident. Police have recovered the service rifle involved in the shooting. The officer whose rifle discharged was present at the station for some time after the incident but later left.
Authorities are in contact with the soldier’s family and will consider their perspective once they come forward. When questioned about the family’s claims that the incident was a murder, the Superintendent emphasized that the investigation will clarify whether it was a homicide or an accidental shooting.
Additionally, the family of the deceased soldier will receive assistance as per Home Guard provisions. Immediate financial aid has already been provided, and there are plans to grant them a monthly sum of 2,000 rupees for two years. Other compensations and benefits related to on-duty deaths will also be made available to the family as per regulations.
