Rahul takes dig at Centre over Army recruitment

New Delhi, April 6 : Congress MP Rahul Gandhi on Wednesday took a dig at the Narendra Modi-led government over delay in Army recruitment, a day after the aspirants staged a protest at the Jantar Mantar here over the same. “Young people are ready to lay down their lives for the country, but this incompetent government is not ready to recruit in the Army. Neither job nor security,” the former Congress president wrote in a tweet, along with a 30-second video of aspirants, expressing their disappointment against the government over this issue along with the hashtag ‘Kiske Achhe Din’. In the video, one of the aspirants said, “It has been two years. If other services recruitment can be done amid the Covid-19 pandemic, then why is there a problem with Army recruitment.” Last month, on Minister of State for Defence Ajay Bhatt informed the Rajya Sabha that recruitment process was restricted for the Indian Army in 2020-21 and 2021-22 due to spread of Covid-19, as it requires large gatherings. He further said that Covid-19 cases were substantially reduced, but not eradicated and as a result, the recruitment process was slowed down. DS RJ
