Punjab rules out multiple pensions

Chandigarh, March 25 : Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann announced on Friday that legislators in the state will henceforth get only one pension even if they had been elected to the Assembly more than once. “Today, we have taken another big decision,” Mann said. “The pension formula for Punjab’s MLAs will be changed. MLAs will now be eligible for only one pension. “Thousands of crores of rupees which were being spent on MLA pensions will now be used to benefit the people of Punjab,” he added. The announcement followed reports that former MLAs were drawing multiple pensions — one for each session when they were elected. MR
