Chandigarh, February 3: The Punjab Police has made significant strides against an international drug trafficking network. Acting on intelligence, they launched an operation that successfully dismantled a drug smuggling module operating across the border.
During this operation, the Ferozepur Police arrested an individual and seized 5.507 kilograms of heroin. Punjab Police’s DGP, Gaurav Yadav, shared details of the operation on the social media platform X.
In his post, he stated, “In an intelligence-based operation, the Ferozepur Police dismantled a cross-border drug trafficking module, arresting a person from village Chandivala, PS Sadar Ferozepur, and recovering 5.507 kilograms of heroin. Initial investigations indicate his connections with traffickers based in Pakistan.”
The DGP confirmed that a First Information Report (FIR) has been filed, and teams are actively investigating the case. He emphasized that the Punjab Police is fully committed to a zero-tolerance policy against drugs and will continue efforts to make the state drug-free, safe, and secure.
Earlier, on January 30, the Punjab Police achieved another significant success. The DGP reported that the Amritsar Rural Police uncovered a major narco-smuggling network operating across the border. In this operation, two traffickers were arrested, and 51.5 kilograms of heroin, packaged in 103 packets, were seized.
Preliminary investigations revealed that both suspects were in constant contact with their handlers based in Pakistan and were part of an organized drug trafficking network. A thorough examination of their mobile phones uncovered numerous digital evidence, call records, and chats that confirmed their criminal activities. An FIR was registered under the NDPS Act at the Garinda police station, and the police are continuing to investigate links to other members of the network.
The ongoing operations by the Punjab Police throughout the state clearly demonstrate their stringent monitoring of cross-border drug trafficking. Officials have stated that efforts will be intensified through technical investigations, intelligence inputs, and field operations to dismantle the entire drug mafia network.
