Chandigarh, May 20: Punjab Governor Gulab Chand Kataria was welcomed by Union Minister of State for Railways Ravneet Singh Bittu on Wednesday. This was during the foundation stone-laying ceremony for a bridge at Level Crossing Number 123 in Baltana on the Ambala-Chandigarh rail segment.
Addressing the gathering, Governor Kataria emphasized the pivotal role of Indian Railways in fostering the spirit of ‘unity in diversity’ across the country. He noted that people from various states travel through railways to remote areas, allowing them to experience different languages, cultures, traditions, and lifestyles. Rail travel is not merely a means of transportation but a powerful way to appreciate the nation’s rich cultural diversity.
He further stated that Indian Railways is actively working to weave citizens into a unified thread. The railways serve as a bridge, helping people understand and appreciate the unique cuisines, attire, customs, and cultural heritage of different states.
The Governor highlighted the invaluable contribution of Indian Railways to nation-building. He mentioned that as the largest network in the country, it strengthens national unity through public connectivity and social integration.
During the ceremony, Minister Bittu remarked that Governor Kataria, hailing from a vast state like Rajasthan, understands the significance of rail transport well. He pointed out that Rajasthan is one of the largest states in the country, with an extensive railway network. The Governor is fully aware of how railway connectivity positively impacts people’s lives and accelerates regional development. He expressed heartfelt gratitude to the Governor for taking the time to support this important project.
Providing details about the Road Under Bridge project, Minister Bittu mentioned that it is being constructed at a cost of ₹12 crore. This initiative is being executed on a 50:50 cost-sharing basis between Indian Railways and the Chandigarh administration.
