Punjab Chief Ministers France Trip Sparks Political Controversy
Punjabs CM Bhagwant Mann faces criticism for celebrating his birthday in France amid local unrest over drug issues.

Chandigarh, October 17 (Daily Kiran) : Political tensions are rising in Punjab following Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann’s recent trip to France. Bikram Singh Majithia, a leader of the Shiromani Akali Dal, has launched a strong attack on Mann, accusing him of celebrating his birthday in Paris while serious issues plague the state.
Majithia alleged that on October 16, Mann conducted a police meeting in Phillaur while under the influence of alcohol. He criticized the Chief Minister for leaving the state amid unrest related to the Parvinder Jhota case, questioning the appropriateness of celebrating in France during such turmoil.
“It’s his birthday, and I even posted about ‘An Evening in Paris,’ a famous Hindi song, highlighting the festivities,” Majithia remarked. He expressed disappointment that Mann would hold a police meeting while allegedly intoxicated, emphasizing the absurdity of a Chief Minister discussing drug issues while reportedly being inebriated himself.
Majithia further raised concerns about the serious allegations against Amardeep Grewal, who has been present at numerous family and personal events of the Chief Minister. Grewal, who is also the brother-in-law of Mann, faces grave accusations, and Majithia insists that Punjab will not forgive such actions.
He pointed out that if a girl has been exploited and a substantial amount of money was paid to send the accused abroad, the lack of police action is alarming. “There were audio and video recordings made public regarding this case,” he stated.
The Shiromani Akali Dal leader stressed the severity of the situation, noting that it is unacceptable for the victim’s statements to be recorded in court while the accused manages to flee to America shortly after being released from jail.
Tensions in Punjab continue to escalate as the opposition demands accountability and transparency from the Chief Minister’s office.
