Protests Erupt in Giridih After Young Mans Murder Linked to Holi Celebrations

Giridih, March 6: In Giridih, Jharkhand, angry residents staged a protest on Friday, blocking roads in response to the murder of a young man. Family members of the victim and local residents gathered near the Hattiya Gate in the Nagar police station area, demanding the swift arrest of the accused.

State Minister Sudivya Kumar Sonu arrived at the scene after learning about the roadblock. He met with the victim’s family, assuring them of justice and instructing the administration to ensure the prompt arrest of those responsible.

Following discussions with the minister and officials, the protest was eventually called off. The incident occurred in the Ravi Das neighborhood of Hutti Bazaar, where a dispute over DJ music during Holi celebrations escalated into violence. During this altercation, 30-year-old Ajay Kumar Das was fatally stabbed, and three others sustained serious injuries.

Witnesses reported that a DJ was playing music as residents celebrated Holi. A quarrel broke out among some children, prompting Ajay Kumar Das to arrive with friends in an attempt to defuse the situation. Meanwhile, Ravi Das, a local resident, arrived with accomplices and allegedly launched a knife and razor attack.

The assault left Ajay Kumar Das and three others severely injured. Nearby residents rushed all the injured to Giridih Sadar Hospital, where doctors pronounced Ajay Kumar Das dead. Rajesh Das, Pardum Das, and Prem Das are currently receiving treatment at the hospital.

Local sources indicate that Ravi Das, the main accused, had familial ties to the victim, and there had been prior tensions between them. Police officials arrived promptly at the scene and initiated an investigation. The victim’s body has been sent for post-mortem, and efforts to apprehend the suspects are ongoing.
