New Delhi, March 12 : BJP Rajya Sabha MP Bhubaneswar Kalita on Monday took a dig at the previous Congress-led UPA government at the Centre and said that the Narendra Modi-led government believes in completion of developmental projects, not only on announcements. “The principle of this government under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi is not only to make announcements of projects like the previous government, but to complete and make them operational,” Kalita said, while participating in a discussion on working of the Ministry of Development of North East Region (DoNER) in the Rajya Sabha, in a veiled attack on the previous Congress government. Accusing the Congress of neglecting the North East (NE) region, the BJP member from Assam said, “Earlier, there was ‘Look East Policy’ for NE. It was only to look, not act. But now under our government, it is ‘Act East Policy’, which is connected to South East Asia.” Highlighting the initiatives taken by BJP government for the development of NE region after it rode to power, Kalita said, “Development of any region will take place, when there is connectivity and this has been the topmost priority of our government. “In the last few years, many important projects have come up in the NE region. New airports have been added in the region, like Sikkim and Arunachal Pradesh (under construction airport at Hollongi near Itanagar),” added the BJP member. He said the DoNER Ministry and the Government of India were fulfilling the dream of people of NE region into reality by working on various sectors, whether it was health, infrastructure, sports or other sectors. These were not happening earlier during the Congress regime, he alleged. DS RJ
