
New Delhi, May 19: President Droupadi Murmu expressed her condolences on the passing of former Uttarakhand Chief Minister Major General (Retd) Bhuvan Chandra Khanduri. She highlighted that Khanduri exemplified honesty, simplicity, transparency, and development-oriented politics. His commitment to the progress of both the nation and Uttarakhand will always be remembered.
The President’s office shared a message on the social media platform X, stating, “The news of the demise of former Uttarakhand Chief Minister and former Union Minister Major General (Retd) B.C. Khanduri is deeply saddening. After serving with distinction in the Indian Army, he showcased a commitment to public service characterized by honesty, simplicity, transparency, and development. His dedication to the development, good governance, and public welfare of both the nation and Uttarakhand will always be remembered. I extend my heartfelt condolences to his grieving family and well-wishers.”
Vice President C.P. Radhakrishnan’s office also expressed sorrow on social media, saying, “I am deeply saddened by the passing of former Union Minister and Uttarakhand Chief Minister Major General B.C. Khanduri (Retd). His demise is a loss to the nation, as we have lost an exceptional soldier, a capable administrator, and a politician of extraordinary integrity. His visionary contributions through the Golden Quadrilateral and National Highway Development Program will remain a milestone in India’s development journey. I had the privilege of meeting him during my recent visit to Dehradun, where we fondly recalled our time as colleagues in the Lok Sabha. In this time of grief, I extend my heartfelt sympathies to his family, countless admirers, and the people of Uttarakhand.”
Union Home Minister Amit Shah wrote on X, “The passing of former Uttarakhand Chief Minister and senior BJP leader Bhuvan Chandra Khanduri is an irreparable loss for Uttarakhand and the BJP family. Having served in the army for over three decades, Khanduri was dedicated to the principle of putting the nation first. As Chief Minister of Uttarakhand, he elevated good governance, transparency, and public welfare to new heights. During this time of mourning, the entire BJP family stands with his family. I pray that God grants the departed soul a place at His feet and provides strength to the grieving family and supporters to bear this loss.”
Defense Minister Rajnath Singh expressed his sorrow, stating, “I feel deep sorrow at the passing of former Uttarakhand Chief Minister Major General (Retd) Bhuvan Chandra Khanduri. Throughout his long public life, he served the nation and society with great discipline, integrity, and a spirit of service. His dedication to the development, good governance, and public welfare of Uttarakhand was unparalleled. My condolences go out to his grieving family and supporters.”
Several Chief Ministers from various states also expressed their condolences on Khanduri’s passing. Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta posted on X, “The news of the demise of senior BJP leader, former Uttarakhand Chief Minister, and former Union Minister Major General (Retd) Bhuvan Chandra Khanduri is extremely saddening. Khanduri’s entire life was dedicated to the values of national service, simplicity, discipline, and good governance. His personality will always be a source of inspiration. I pray that God grants peace to the departed soul and strength to the grieving family.”
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath wrote, “The passing of former Uttarakhand Chief Minister and senior BJP leader Major General (Retd) Bhuvan Chandra Khanduri is extremely sad. I offer my humble tribute. I pray to Lord Ram to grant the departed soul eternal peace and provide strength to the grieving family.”
Bihar Chief Minister Samrat Chaudhary expressed his sorrow, stating, “The news of the passing of former Uttarakhand Chief Minister and senior BJP leader Major General Bhuvan Chandra Khanduri is extremely saddening.
