President Droupadi Murmu to Visit Bastar on October 23 for Historic Murya Darbar

President Droupadi Murmu will attend the historic Murya Darbar in Jagdalpur on October 23, highlighting Bastars cultural significance.

Jagdalpur, October 16 (Daily Kiran) : President Droupadi Murmu is set to arrive in Jagdalpur, Chhattisgarh, on October 23 as part of her visit to Bastar. During her trip, she will participate in the historic ‘Murya Darbar’ held as part of the Bastar Dussehra festival and engage in discussions with members of the Manjhi-Chalki community.

Following the darbar, the President will address a large public gathering at Lalbagh Maidan. Mahesh Kashyap, the local MP and president of the Dussehra committee, formally invited President Murmu to the festival, and she has accepted the invitation, paving the way for her visit.

Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Vishnu Dev Sai confirmed to reporters that the President has been invited to Bastar during her proposed trip to the state on October 22 and 23. Earlier, representatives from the Manjhi-Chalki community had also urged her to visit the region, a request she gladly accepted.

The Chief Minister expressed that the President’s visit is a matter of great pride and joy for everyone. He has instructed officials to ensure all necessary arrangements are in place for the public attending the event.

In preparation for this high-profile visit, District Collector Akash Chhikara and Superintendent of Police Shalabh Sinha convened a crucial meeting with officials. They reviewed security measures, traffic management, protocols, seating arrangements, and all other essential logistics. Both senior officials emphasized the importance of timely preparation.

After the review meeting, the Collector and SP inspected Lalbagh Maidan to assess the setup for the event. They checked on the construction of the stage, security arrangements, separate entry and exit points for dignitaries and the public, provisions for drinking water, emergency medical facilities, and vehicle parking.

The ‘Murya Darbar’ holds significant historical importance. During the time of the Bastar princely state, a darbar was held after the successful completion of Dussehra, where the king would listen to the people’s grievances. Village heads would present their issues and needs to the king, making this traditional assembly a vital part of the Bastar Dussehra.

With the end of the royal system and the advent of democracy, the nature of this darbar has evolved. Today, it serves as a platform for discussing regional issues and demands in the presence of administrative and political representatives, with former royal family members also participating, maintaining a connection to tradition.

A large crowd is anticipated during President Murmu’s attendance at the ‘Murya Darbar’ and her subsequent public address, showcasing Bastar’s cultural and democratic spirit.
