
New Delhi, May 17: President Droupadi Murmu will present the Padma Awards for the year 2026 on May 25. The Ministry of Home Affairs announced this information via a social media post.
According to the ministry, the awards ceremony will take place at Rashtrapati Bhavan, where the President will confer the Padma Vibhushan, Padma Bhushan, and Padma Shri awards.
This year, the Government of India has announced a total of 131 Padma Awards. This includes 5 Padma Vibhushan, 13 Padma Bhushan, and 113 Padma Shri awards.
Among the awardees, 19 women will be honored, and 16 individuals will receive posthumous recognition.
The Padma Awards are among the highest civilian honors in the country. Initiated in 1954, these awards are announced annually on Republic Day.
The purpose of these awards is to recognize individuals who have made exceptional contributions in various fields. Honors are awarded for notable achievements in areas such as art, literature, education, sports, medicine, social work, science and engineering, public administration, and business and industry.
