Indore, September 22 (Daily Kiran) : In Indore, political discourse has intensified ahead of the Navratri festival, particularly regarding Garba celebrations. BJP legislator Usha Thakur has voiced her support for demands from Hindu organizations concerning the nature of Garba events.
Speaking to a news agency, Thakur emphasized that Garba should never be commercialized, describing it as a festival dedicated to the worship of the divine feminine. She urged the Hindu community to study their scriptures and prepare for the protection of their faith, culture, and nation.
This year, several Hindu organizations have called for restrictions on non-Hindus entering Garba pandals, citing concerns over maintaining the sanctity of the events. Thakur agreed, stating that outsiders have previously disrupted the atmosphere.
Thakur also addressed comments made by Congress leaders, defending a fellow councilor, Sandhya Yadav, who she described as a daughter to her. She suggested that Yadav’s advice to prioritize health was misconstrued and criticized Congress for lacking substantive issues, implying they should not interfere in BJP matters.
Meanwhile, Vishva Hindu Parishad (VHP) leader Santosh Sharma has adopted a firm stance, asserting that they are fully prepared to address any disturbances during the Navratri celebrations. He warned that any misconduct would be met with strict consequences, contrasting with past leniencies.
Congress has retaliated against the BJP’s position. Congress leader Sajjan Singh Verma urged people to cease conflicts based on caste and religion, accusing BJP members of inciting discord for political gain. Verma also criticized fellow party member Kailash Vijayvargiya for inappropriate comments regarding a female councilor’s appearance, which sparked outrage and was widely shared on social media.
The ongoing political battle highlights the intersection of culture and politics in the region as the festive season approaches.
