New Delhi, May 1: Political reactions have intensified following Congress leader Pawan Khera’s bail granted by the Supreme Court. This case is linked to comments made about Himanta Biswa Sarma and his wife. Reacting to the decision, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Anurag Dhanda accused the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of misusing central agencies during elections.
He stated that the cases involving Pawan Khera and the electoral strategy organization I-PAC clearly indicate that agencies are used to suppress the opposition during elections.
In an interview with a news agency, Dhanda alleged that during the elections, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) took action against officials associated with I-PAC, attempting to influence the campaign. He also mentioned that the Assam police conducted raids in Khera’s case during the code of conduct period, exerting pressure on the opposition.
According to him, the swift relief from courts after elections suggests that the timing of these actions was politically motivated. He further accused the BJP of using agencies as a “tool” in collaboration with the Election Commission.
Meanwhile, justifying the strongroom controversy in Kolkata and Mamata Banerjee’s visit there, Dhanda remarked that the election had turned into a conflict between the TMC and the Election Commission. He asserted that if there is any negligence in the security of the EVMs, the party must step up to protect its mandate, making Banerjee’s concerns valid.
In Guwahati, AIUDF General Secretary Rafiqul Islam also responded to Khera’s bail. He stated that obtaining bail is a right for every citizen but accused the BJP of continuously misusing agencies, making it easier for them to engage in political games against opposition parties.
